A student of William Adolphe Bouguereau, Jacquet was enthusiastically received by the late 1800’s French public and art critics alike. A salon exhibitor, he was awarded a third class medal in 1868, a first class in 1879 and was decorated by the Legion of Honor in 1879. Jacquet’s women possess a delicacy and timeless beauty and are often romantically clothed in 16th through 18th century dress. His paintings are housed in some of the most important art museums and private collections in the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. We are delighted to include this painting among our collection of fine 19th century French academic art.
