This superbly-painted, oil-on-panel by Conrad Kiesel, titled The Love Letter (Le Billet Doux), is artist-signed and measures without its frame, 14.25” by 7.25”.  Presented in its custom, pure gold leaf gilded, wood frame this measures 24.5” tall x 17.25” wide.

This painting was cleaned by our art restorers and now reveals its beautiful original colors and textures.

Kiesel studied architecture and was an accomplished and professional sculptor before he became a noted painter. He studied painting under Wilhelm Sohn and moved to Berlin in 1885, where he gained a reputation for being a superb portraitist and genre painter. He was a professor at the Berlin Academy of Arts and received painting commissions from the Emperor Wilhelm II. Throughout his life, Kiesel submitted works at the annual Great Art Exhibition in Berlin and the Glass Palace Exhibitions in Munich. In 1900 he received an honorable mention at the World Exhibition in Paris. Kiesel is known worldwide for his exceptional ability to depict textures and fluidity in fabrics, as well as elegant women whose expressiveness exudes both warmth and passion.
